Although Ajax are almost certain to return to the Champions League, the club is still facing major financial issues – and this could reportedly impact one Wolverhampton Wanderers player.
According to De Telegraaf – whose words have been picked up by VoetbalPrimeur – the players signed under former director Sven Mislintat are set to earn significantly more due to clauses in their contracts that increase their wages with Champions League qualification, with some reaching up to 50% more.
Out of the twelve players Mislintat brought in, nine still remain at the club, whether in the squad now or out on loan. Only the trio of Diant Ramaj, Benjamin Tahirovic and Georges Mikautadze made permanent moves away.
The others, including Carlos Forbs who’s out on loan at Wolves, no longer have a future at Ajax. Worryingly for the Portuguese, he might be cut and dry.
Though Wolves have a purchase option in his deal, it’s believed to be unlikely it will be activated, so he is set to return to Ajax where he could be part of the club’s reserve squad, after being made aware that he is unwanted in Amsterdam, too.
Indeed, the report states that Ajax have told “some of their agents that these players will be sent to the reserves when pre-season starts, whereupon they will be moved to “the less prestigious “dressing room two”.
