Kalvin Phillips almost certainly should have left Manchester City during the summer transfer window. He would have been able to manage an exit more easily, allowing his agents to find a deal which was suitable for both the Premier League champions and the midfielder.
Dashing to get out during the January market isn’t quite as easy, but it appears the chaos at Juventus will provide the opportunity requested.
The Turin club are without Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli, both due to long term suspensions, and they need to bring someone in for the second half of the season.
Monday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport reports Phillipes has given his ‘general approval’ over a move to Juventus, probably realising how fortunate he would be to get such a chance after so little football at Manchester City.
According to the Italian newspaper, Pep Guardiola’s side will accept a dry loan, which is the type of deal the Serie A side want most.
That would allow them to send Phillips back in the summer if things didn’t work out, so it may not provide him with the security he would have otherwise desired.
Another hope is Newcastle United, although Gazzetta have nothing on that slant today.
