As things stand, Sokratis Papastathopoulos is an Arsenal player.
However, that might not be the case in the very near future, as Corriere dello Sport are reporting he is ‘doing everything to leave’ the Emirates.
He might be ‘fine’ in London, but the newspaper explain the centre-back ‘feels the call of Italy, that of Naples, of his old friends Gattuso and Manolas’, who have told him ‘all about’ the club and the city.
It’s said ‘the (personal) negotiation with Arsenal is underway’ and Papastathopoulos is trying ’to free himself without spilling any money’, meaning he’s attempting to terminate his contract.
For Napoli, him doing so would be a ‘nice saving’ that would ‘facilitate the conclusion of an operation that is complex and that risks becoming dangerous’.
Why isn’t stated, but we’re guessing that if Sokratis ends up frustrating Arsenal with his demands, things could get ugly.
After all, Napoli aren’t meant to be talking to the player currently and certainly aren’t supposed to have turned his head like this.
