German side Schalke are in negotiations with Everton over a second loan move for defender Jonjoe Kenny.

The right-back spent last season on loan with the Bundesliga side after Everton made it clear there was no place for him in their squad.

Despite Schalke enduring a disappointing campaign, he was one of their standout performers, becoming a firm fan favourite and showing rapid development as a result of his exposure to first-team football.

The Germans were keen to keep him, but Everton insisted he return this summer, ruling out the possibility of a second loan deal.

Sport1, however, suggest that has now changed, and the two clubs have held ‘initial talks’ about him returning to the club.

They claim that Carlo Ancelotti is ‘reportedly not fully convinced’ by Kenny and so could let him leave again, although whether they are ready to let him go out on loan again ‘is open’.

Either way, Schalke remain keen and their sport’s director Jochen Schneider ‘would like’ to bring him back to the club if he can.

The decision, though, seems to rest solely with Everton. They need to decide whether to keep or sell Kenny this summer, with the latter unlikely to happen unless they can source a replacement first.
