On July 22nd, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg reported Timo Werner could leave Chelsea due to his fractured relationship with Thomas Tuchel.
This claim is backed up Sport1, who add the forward’s relationship with his coach ‘visibly suffered’ after the latter publicly asked him to “show quality, take your place and defend your place.”
The 26-year-old has ‘no motivation’ to do it at Chelsea. He ‘doesn’t feel comfortable’ at the west London club and has thoughts of making a move elsewhere this summer.
This may result in a return to RB Leipzig, the club who sold him to the Blues in 2020. They ‘want’ their old player back and ‘there are now even talks’ between them and the Premier League side for the Germany international.
Werner, who cost Chelsea €64m, earns €295,000 gross per week. It will be difficult for the Bundesliga side to pay a similar fee and also match his current wages. In order to return to his former club, the attacker would be ready to forego part of his salary.
The cost of the deal could be still be expensive for Leipzig and therefore, the only possible way for them to sign Werner will be on a loan deal. Apart from the German club, Juventus are still interested in Tuchel’s man.
There’s a growing insistence Werner is thinking about leaving Chelsea after Tuchel’s comments. Leipzig want to take him on a loan deal, while Juve are still in the picture for the German.
