One of the many areas of the pitch where Everton have needed extra quality this season has been in attack.
Currently 18th out of 20 in the Premier League, the club have scored just 19 goals in the competition this season.
No club has scored less than the Toffees in the Premier League, and Leeds United, just one place above them thanks to goal difference, have scored 10 more than Everton.
Last summer there were links with Samu Chukwueze, who was struggling to fulfil his big potential at Villarreal. A deal looked possible, with the Spanish side open to offers at the time, but the Merseyside club weren’t able to get a deal over the line.
Since then the 23-year-old has contributed a rather impressive 10 goals and 10 assists in 34 matches, and Marca say he’s beginning to show what all the fuss was for earlier in his career.
Chukwueze has ‘definitely exploded’.
The Spanish newspaper point out he was in the transfer ‘spotlight’ for Everton last summer, and it’s unclear whether Villarreal will be able to keep him during the coming summer market.
Given the attacker has a contract expiring in 2024, that may be difficult.
One for Everton to keep on their agenda, as long as they remain in the Premier League.
