Regularly featuring professionally for the first time in his career last year with Le Havre in Ligue 2, Pape Alassane Gueye enjoyed a solid second half to the season.

The 20-year-old started eight of his team’s last nine games of the 2018-19 campaign at defensive midfield, catching the attention of a few scouts around Europe with his performances.

With just one year left on his contract, the France U19 international has a few suitors in the Premier League, according to L’Equipe, notably Watford, West Ham and Leicester.

This might not be anything new to you, as it was first reported back in early May, yet it seems things have gone a bit further since, as the French newspaper explain ‘contacts’ were made between the player and the English trio.

The Hornets, the Foxes and the Hammers all remain keen on the defensive midfielder’s services, but face tough competition from abroad, as Valencia are also ‘strongly interested’.

Furthermore, the French newspaper explain the chance of playing in La Liga in a club set to feature in the Champions League next year is something Gueye would be quite interested in.

That means clubs like West Ham, Leicester and Watford will have to up their game if they wish to acquire the young midfielder this summer, unless they are prepared to wait and see what happens, perhaps hoping they can try and lure him on a free when his contract expires in a year’s time.

Unless he renews with Le Havre, of course.
