Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell has confirmed he will be returning to the club at the end of the season. The player was present at a Sporting event in Costa Rica, and when speaking to journalists was asked if there’s any chance the Portuguese club will be able to keep him next summer.
“There’s no buying option,” he said (via A Bola). “I have to fulfil my loan at Sporting in the best way and, then, return to Arsenal.”
Despite having joined Sporting on loan from Arsenal last summer, Campbell still hasn’t managed to be a regular starter at the club. Mostly because of his unimpressive stats, something which put Sporting off going into talks with Arsenal over a permanent deal.
But Campbell is still hopeful he’ll be getting more chances to prove himself after the international break.
“I have given the best of myself, sometimes I play, other times not, but that’s football. But I hope I can play again when I return.”
This is Joel Campbell’s fourth loan from Arsenal, having been previously at Betis, Olympiakos and Villarreal.
As his contract with the club is expiring next year, the summer will be time for Arsene Wenger to take a decision over him. Campbell is already 24 years of age and can’t keep being loaned out forever.
