Standard Liege midfielder Nicolas Raskin was ‘close to joining’ Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers FC on deadline day as a possible replacement for Glen Kamara.
That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who provided details on the player’s aborted move to Ibrox on Thursday evening.
He explains that Raskin had been close to joining Rangers and was a priority for sporting director Ross Wilson.
Rangers were offering the player a four-year contract in Scotland and an offer ‘was expected’ to arrive in the afternoon.
However, that was dependent on Glen Kamara departing Rangers first, with he himself linked with a £10m deadline day move to French side Nice.
That move never happened and thus there was no need to move for Raskin, but it appears Rangers were ready to get their man if Kamara had departed Ibrox.
Whether they maintain that interest in future remains to be seen, but his name is certainly one to keep an eye on, particularly if Kamara is linked with a move away again in the January transfer window.
