Following all the reports from Brazil regarding Gustavo Scarpa’s agreement to sign for Nottingham Forest, journalist Jorge Nicola now brings a few more details about this deal.
The reporter claims to have confirmed a few extra details with a Palmeiras director.
This official told Nicola it was Nottingham Forest directly who contacted the club to say they’ve reached a pre-agreement to sign the midfielder for free in January 2023. That was an obligation the Premier League side had, since the player has a contract with Palmeiras until December 2022.
The Reds may be signing a player for free, but that certainly doesn’t mean he was not wanted in Brazil. The story claims his club had been trying to renew his deal for a long time, and he always made it clear that his priority was to move to Europe. The response was the same when the likes of Atlético Mineiro, Flamengo and São Paulo went after him.
It’s many times claimed Scarpa didn’t move for money, and that’s backed up by Goal Brasil, who say Palmeiras made him an offer which included a bigger salary than Nottingham Forest would pay. He always wanted a move to the Premier League, where he’s signing a contract until 2026, according to Band.
