Vincente Guaita may be finally handed his chance to impress at new club Celta Vigo after arriving ‘very out of shape’ from Crystal Palace this summer.

That’s according to Moi Celeste, who say the goalkeeper may now be drafted in by Rafa Benitez as he fights to turn things around and save his job.

They explain that when Celta decided to sign a goalkeeper in the summer there were many names they were looking at but the one who finally arrived was Guaita.

He had been released by Crystal Palace after a big falling out with the club and manager Roy Hodgson that culminated in him refusing to play at one stage.

Those ‘problems’ prevented him from training well in pre-season, so he arrived ‘very out of shape’ and thus wasn’t considered for selection.

However, Celta’s ‘pressing’ problems in defence, in that they’ve conceded a goal in all nine games so far and took their run of games without a clean sheet, which extends into last season, to 17 games, means there is need for change.

Current goalkeeper Iván Villar has not been impressive and Guaita would be the one they’ll turn to change things.

He is now fit and ready for selection after arriving from Crystal Palace unready, and the belief is that Benitez is now ‘seriously considering’ bringing him in to try and turn around his side’s defensive problems.

The belief is that the change could be positive for the team and change their direction, which has been downwards since Benitez’s arrival.
