Manchester City were heavily linked with a move for Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso in the winter transfer window.
The full-back ended up staying in Turin but it now seems as if interest from the Citizens has strongly impacted his form in the second half of the season.
Cambiaso has struggled in the last few weeks and has a particularly bad game against Parma at the weekend.
TuttoSport have taken note of how the Italian ‘appears empty and detached’ and that interest from Manchester City heaped ‘pressure’ on him in January.
That is when he was recovering from an ankle injury and Pep Guardiola’s admiration for him also created a situation which meant he couldn’t quite focus on doing well for the Bianconeri after his return in February.
The report states that it is a ‘worrying’ scenario because Cambiaso was a key player in the first half of the season. He has thriving under Thiago Motta, who also managed him at Bologna.
Now, Manchester City are expected to come forward for him again in the summer, with the newspaper confident that Guardiola still wants the versatile defender at the Etihad Stadium next season.
