Paris Saint-Germain owned goalkeeper Alphonse Aréola ‘appeals’ to Newcastle United, according to Le10 Sport.

The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Real Madrid, where is he is the backup to Thibaut Courtois.

Zinedine Zidane’s side retain an option to sign the France international on a permanent transfer, but the La Liga giants will not exercise it.

It’s also claimed Thomas Tuchel’s side don’t have any intention to retain him. The Paris club’s idea is to offload him in the upcoming window and use the funds from his sale to invest in new signings.

Luckily for PSG, there’s interest in the Premier League or at least, that’s what Le10 are reporting. According to them, the Magpies are looking to strengthen their goalkeeping position this summer, which is why they are looking at Aréola.

For now, Newcastle have not discussed the World Cup winner with the French club or his entourage. Aréola is managed by super-agent Mino Raiola and he is of the belief finding a new club will not be a problem.

Despite the player having a contract until 2023, the prospect of a ‘nice’ transfer would please PSG sporting director Leonardo, who is looking to raise funds through sales.

Le10’s report gives an indication that PSG are trying to push Aréola towards the Premier League.

Martin Dúbravka is the first-choice keeper at Newcastle and his contract ends in 2025. He has kept 10 clean sheets and conceded 43 goals in 32 league matches.
