Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rúben Neves ‘can go’ to Manchester United after this season, if a report from Monday’s Sport is to be believed.
He has been regularly linked with a move to Barcelona throughout the course of this season.
The La Liga side have decided to ‘close the folder’ on the 27-year-old, who finally seems set to continue his career in the Premier League, where Manchester United are said to be in the mix to sign the Wolves midfielder.
The Catalan club had practically closed the agreement for his arrival before their technical leaders and coaching staff decided to prioritise other targets. Neves didn’t fit the profile of the midfielder desired by Xavi Hernández.
Despite Barca chief Joan Laporta reaching an agreement with the Portugal international’s agent, Jorge Mendes, for his transfer, Sport state this deal won’t take shape. His contract at Wolves expires in 2024 and Sport believe he may end up at Manchester United.
It’s explained the Wolves midfielder is ‘already negotiating what could be his transfer to Manchester United’ in the summer.
This is a surprise report, considering there hasn’t been a great deal of claims of Erik ten Hag’s side showing interest in Neves.
If Sport’s report on Manchester United is true, there are likely to be more reports on this topic in England, and potentially Portugal, in the coming days.
