First it was Manchester United, followed by Liverpool. Then came Chelsea, and now we’re back to the Red Devils.
These are the teams who have been strongly linked with Cagliari’s Nicolo Barella, whose future has become a great source of speculation for many Italian newspapers.
Looking at where many footballers could end up, Gazzetta dello Sport give us a lovely pie chart, making it clear he will be leaving the Sardinia-based side, but only in the summer.
His destination could be one of three clubs, with Inter in the lead at 40%, followed by both Manchester United and Napoli on 30% each.
Gazzetta explain that scouts from the Premier League side have brought back ‘excellent reports’ when watching the 21-year-old, and Barella’s name features on their ‘shortlist’ of players for the ‘new leaf’ being turned at Old Trafford.
Chelsea, who were said to be very close to signing Barella in January at one point, are completely forgotten, suggesting they’ve moved on for now.
To be fair, few clubs, even Premier League ones, were going to pay €50m midway through the season.
