Manchester United youngster Facundo Pellistri has defended Cristiano Ronaldo, insisting he is ‘very human’ despite his status as a global superstar.
Ronaldo is undergoing something of a low point in his glittering career, having found himself on the bench this season following Erik ten Hag’s arrival at Manchester United.
It’s a situation that the Portuguese legend is less than happy about, with a recent incident seeing him refuse to come off the bench in the win over Tottenham.
Ronaldo was pictured angrily storming down the tunnel, with the incident seeing him fined by Ten Hag and temporarily sent to train with the youngsters.
It saw him receive stern criticism from all corners, with the vast majority of fans, pundits and former players taking Ten Hag’s side against the striker.
Ronaldo has since publicly apologised for his actions, insisting that it was a mistake and out of character for him personally.
It seems one man who isn’t questioning his personality is Manchester United teammate Facundo Pellistri, who has offered a glowing endorsement of him today.
“What struck me most about Cristiano Ronaldo? Already when I saw him, I was impressed by him,” he told ESPN.
“But yes, he is always one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave, you always hear those things, but with him I confirmed it.
“He’s also ‘very human’, even though he’s one of the biggest stars in football and in the world, he’s always attentive to everything.
“He always greets me and asks me about my injury, as a person he is incredible, as a player we already know what he is.”
