Earlier on Wednesday we covered claims from France’s Yahoo! that PSG and Everton have agreed a deal for the transfer of Idrissa Gueye.
It was reported the player will be moving for a figure above €30m, excluding bonuses, and that details were still being sorted out with regards to how the money would be paid.
Wednesday’s edition of L’Equipe doesn’t take it that far, and neither do Le Parisien. Neither do Paris United, who have proven themselves to be a good source on all things PSG.
On Tuesday evening they reported a new offer of €30m plus bonuses, and that a meeting had taken place in a Liverpool hotel. That meeting was attended by Everton, a PSG official and the player’s agent, with the aim to find a deal.
There’s a possibility they could be behind on the story, or that Yahoo! are trying to jump the gun. The former is likelier.
L’Equipe suggest the reason Gueye didn’t play against Huddersfield Town could be more to do with transfer pressure than a ‘minor injury’, which isn’t a great surprise.
A person close to the player is quoted as saying: “Paris will come back. It’s certain. But for me, they will not let him go for less than €40m.”
The French newspaper says it’s ‘hard to imagine’ PSG paying that, given FFP, but they add: ‘The question of a different offer structure, including for example a player in exchange, was also mentioned.’
Interestingly, it’s stated Arsenal’s attempts to sign highly rated 21 year old Christopher Nkunku aren’t dead. He’s a midfielder, but quite a versatile player, and he’d get less time if Gueye was signed.
There’s an obvious solution here, perhaps.
