Spanish newspaper Marca may think we all live in castles and say “right you are” to each whilst sipping loose leaf tea from china tea cups, if comments on Sunday are anything to judge upon.
Rightly, Marca have a feature on Antonio Conte’s brilliant run with Chelsea, and they’re keen to celebrate it. Elsewhere in Spain, Conte has been dubbed the ‘Cholo of the Premier League’, with comparisons bring made to Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone,
Marca are happier to go with a more English line for their Conte praise.
‘In the centre of bustling London, there is no room for improvisation. The classic and famous English precision governs in all aspects of the daily life of Londoners, from the rigid working hours to the afternoon tea, through to the pints of bitter beer and Christmas decorations.
‘With these traditions has joined in recent weeks Chelsea and Antonio Conte: when they play, they win. There’s nothing else.’
Ignoring that Marca seem to think London is a cross between an Oliver set and Sherlock Holmes, it’s just another example of the respect Conte is building for himself and Chelsea.
Conte has completely moulded Chelsea into his own vision but is a long way for finishing his plan yet. As it stands Conte is moulding his system around the players he has available but with each window will likely come one or two additions so he can make things just a little more ‘Conte’.
Conte is Italian for Earl. Nobody tell Marca.
