Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is in Catalonia, and whilst back home he’s attended an event of the Johan Cruyff Foundation.
Helping to open a Cruyff Court near Barcelona, he was obviously pounced on by the local media.
First, he was asked about potentially being president of the club in the future, and that’s clearly something Guardiola doesn’t think he’s quite got the experience for.
Quoted by Sport, the City boss explained: “I will go back to Barcelona, but to Barca as president? Forget it. You have to be prepared and have knowledge and it is not my case, I try to be a good coach, I’ve not done badly, but president is something else.”
Of course, there was no chance the Barcelona sport media were going to let him go without asking about a potential Neymar return. Guardiola didn’t want to comment on the situation, aware that anything he said would be blown up and potentially turned into a drama.
Then he was asked about Manchester City transfer business, and the club potentially signing two players from La Liga.
On Real Madrid’s Asensio he said “No chance”, and for Atletico Madrid’s Rodri “No idea”.
Mundo Deportivo quote a slightly longer bit on Rodri – “No idea, we’ll see” – and add the manager said he hadn’t telephoned the player.
We’ve heard this song before Pep.
By the way, below is his face just after answering the Rodri question.
