Julen Lopetegui today held his ‘penultimate press conference’ as Sevilla coach as he continues to be linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves are on the hunt for Bruno Lage’s replacement after deciding to sack the Portuguese manager at the weekend.
Lopetegui has been instilled as one of the favourites for the position early on, having found himself under increasing pressure at Sevilla following a disappointing end to last season and a summer in which the squad has lost several big-name players.
Earlier today we covered a report from Spain that explained Lopetegui would accept a lower severance fee to make the move to Wolves more accessible.
They cover his press conference today, which they label as his ‘penultimate press conference’ at the Spanish club. In other words, he’s got this and his post-match one and then he’s on his way.
Lopetegui, for his part, steadfastly refused to comment on the rumours but the newspaper also reiterates reports from elsewhere that Jorge Sampaoli will be his replacement as of Thursday.
So either way, as far as they’re concerned, he will be out of a job this week and potentially free to make the move to Molineux.
