On Saturday we covered multiple claims from Uruguay that Manchester United were on the verge of signing Facundo Pellistri from Penarol. The Premier League club wanted him to move immediately, which was against the wishes of his current side, therefore the solution was to pay his release clause.
There were also claims that Pellistri was scheduled to go through a medical in Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo, on Saturday evening, something which was further backed up on Monday.
Sebas Giovanelli, one of the journalists who started the story, now reports the 18-year-old is set to go through the second part of his medical before signing a five-year contract with Manchester United.
He’ll then be expected to travel to England and start his new career at Carrington. Given the time constraints, the signing may have to be completed in Uruguay before Pellistri physically travels.
El Observador, a newspaper in the South American country, is also reporting a five-year deal. It’s unclear at this stage whether the clause, thought to be $10m, has been paid yet, with differing claims on that.
