Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba won’t be in the France squad for the upcoming international break, having tested positive for Covid-19.
Didier Deschamps is currently holding a press conference and has announced the news about the player, with Yahoo France reporting it. He’ll now have to go through a two week period of isolation, and will be unavailable for both club and country until he’s gone through that and produced a negative result.
Pogba isn’t the only player Deschamps isn’t able to count on, with Tottenham’s Tanguy Ndombele also testing positive for Covid-19. The French pair are the latest in a long line of footballers to pick up the virus, and Chelsea have had to quarantine several of their squad this week.
Across European football, there’s been a relatively high number of footballers testing positive for Covid-19 as they return from holiday to start preseason. It’s likely to be an ongoing issue for clubs, and could even lead to an impact upon matches, should one side suffer a number of cases at the same time.
