Touted to be one of the names the INEOS group were looking at to help Manchester United on the transfer market, Paul Mitchell could end up in Italy.

That’s what Corriere dello Sport are reporting on Wednesday, as they claim the free agent director of football is ‘on pole’ to get the job at AS Roma.

He would take over from Tiago Pinto, in what would be a blow to Manchester United, who were said to be interested in his services going forward to help rebuild the club on the pitch.

The plan in Rome is to announce the Portuguese’s successor on February 3rd, and they have ‘contacted’ a number of names, with the ‘most influential candidate’ being that of the 42-year-old.

That being said, they do also make it clear, in what could be good news for Manchester United, that it is ‘not certain that he is the chosen one’.

This is because other names are being evaluated, such as Christopher Vivell, who most recently had a job at Chelsea under Todd Boehly.

As for names in Italy, there is Ricky Massara, but, for now, Mitchell tops the list, meaning Manchester United might have to move quickly if they want to secure his services.
