Valentino Lazaro is a name likely to become more well known between now and the summer transfer window.
The 23 year old can, and does, play anywhere on the right hand side and that’s been useful for Hertha Berlin this season. Right back, right midfield, right attacking, Lazaro has two goals and four assists in 24 Bundesliga appearances in the current campaign.
Clubs are taking notice, with Everton and Leicester City said to be among them.
Napoli are interested, and that means so is the club’s local media.
CalcioNapoli24 have picked up comments journalist Raffaele Auriemma has given on radio about interest in the player and the pursuit of the Serie A club.
Auriemma explained: “Lazaro’s agent is talking to Napoli… The price is very high. Hertha Berlin asks for €30m, but for €25m you can take him away. There are Premier League clubs who follow him, particularly Everton and Leicester, who continually observe him during Hertha home games.”
There have been some links to English clubs recently, yet this for Everton and Leicester sounds like genuine interest. Given the story is a Napoli one, there’s no need to pluck the Toffees and Foxes from mid-air unless there’s something in it.
Lazaro is very highly rated, so the links could be good news for Everton and Leicester fans. In October of last year, German journalist Raphael Honigstein told the BBC: “He’s one of the reasons Hertha Berlin are in the mix for the Europa League places this season. He’s widely seen as the most talented player to come from Austria since David Alaba.
“He’s been an amazing signing already if you see his energy and adaptability to play in different positions. Some people have compared him to Willian in style – very direct but also skilful. This guy will go places. He looks like he can fit into many different shirts.”
