Earlier this week we covered a claim from France that Chelsea have offered €40m for Moussa Dembele.
Lyon knocked the offer back, but it was stated by Foot Mercato that the Blues were expected to quickly return with another offer, and that Olivier Giroud could be used as part of the deal.
Giroud has been strongly linked with a Chelsea exit as he looks to get games ahead of Euro 2020, and Lyon had previously been reported as interested.
A few hours after the offer claims, which appeared to be coming from the player’s entourage, Lyon published an official statement, saying they have no intention of selling Dembele. This was interesting, given the club have done that repeatedly ahead of actually selling players.
That Chelsea had made an offer wasn’t denied, which was another interesting aspect.
Sunday’s edition of L’Equipe goes over the player’s decent performance for Lyon on Saturday, in the cup against lower division Bourg-en-Bresse. Lyon triumphed 7-0 and Dembele scored twice.
The Premier League club get a mention again, with it being stated the player is ‘particularly coveted by Chelsea’.
