The relationship between Tottenham and Dusan Vlahovic is an interesting one, as it entirely stems from Fabio Paratici.
The director of football was enamoured with the Serbian back when he was at Juventus, and when Manchester City came knocking for Harry Kane, the Fiorentina star became one of the natural options to potentially replace him.
There was no need to do so in the end, as the Spurs striker stayed put for the current season, but we all know that when Pep Guardiola wants something, he tends to get it, so there’s every chance the current Premier League champions will come knocking again in the summer.
That’s why it was a bit of a surprise to hear Paratici directly distance himself from Vlahovic when asked about a potential interest in the player recently, but few in the Italian media were fooled.
Looking at the various landing spots for him, he touches on the London club around midway through, stating that his denial ‘does not convince anyone given that the former Juve CEO would have gladly brought Vlahovic to Turin last year’.
He points out that the logical scenario would be that Spurs ‘could take the Serbian in January fearing Harry Kane’s exit in the summer, a bit like what happened after the Euros’.
While they managed to keep the Englishman this year, ‘who knows next year…’
