Pape Matar Sarr had to wait 18 months to make his debut for Tottenham Hotspur and that came in their defeat against Aston Villa earlier this month.
The midfielder’s lack of game time in 2022 convinced Salernitana to make an attempt to sign him on a loan deal in January.
Their plans suffered a blow after Antonio Conte handed the 20-year-old minutes in Tottenham’s win over Crystal Palace, and also started him in his side’s FA Cup victory over Portsmouth.
Salernitana and their sporting director, Morgan De Sanctis, still wanted to try to convince the Premier League side to sanction a dry loan move this month.
Il Mattino state De Santics had a ‘telephone meeting’ with Tottenham chief Fabio Paratici last night. The latter’s response would again not please Salernitana as Spurs seem to be against the idea of letting Pape Matar Sarr go out on loan in the winter market.
Following Paratici’s response, Salernitana are aware there could be a bitter end in their chase for the Senegalese. Therefore, they are studying alternative targets to strengthen their midfield in the winter market.
