On Thursday, Gazzetta dello Sport briefly mentioned the Matteo Darmian situation at the bottom of an article about Mousa Dembélé, as the Manchester United defender remains a target for Inter in Italy.

The Serie A club, who have already spent a fair chunk of money this window on the likes of Radja Nainggolan and Lautaro Martinez, would ideally like to bring in a new full-back on a loan with a view to buy.

The problem on Thursday was that both Darmian’s and Alessandro Florenzi’s contracts expire in 2019, making that transfer option a bit difficult.

However, it appears Inter, or Gazzetta dello Sport, have remembered/found out that while the Manchester United right-back’s deal does come to an end next year, he also has an option in it that would add another 12 months to his stay in the north of England.

This, as expected, is great news for everyone involved, allowing Manchester United to potentially make most or all of their money back on the Italian defender, as well as giving Darmian the return home he desires and Inter delaying the payment until the 2019-20 season for FFP reasons.
