Despite the silence in the past couple of weeks, FC Porto have apparently not given up on signing Chancel Mbemba from Newcastle United.

Newspaper A Bola brings a story today saying that manager Sérgio Conceição is still interested in the defender, regardless of other signings the club have been working on.

The newspaper writes that things may have cooled down a bit, but it doesn’t mean the talks between the clubs are over, mainly because a ‘rupture scenario’, which sounds quite dramatic, hasn’t happened yet.

Porto’s biggest problem so far is to match Newcastle’s demands. The Magpies have been asking for €9m for Mbemba, but Porto aren’t willing to pay over €7m.

A Bola claims that Porto’s strongest argument is that Rafa Benitez doesn’t count on the defender for next season.

By knowing this, the Dragons feel in a strong position to get the player for a bargain.
