The ruthlessness with which Valencia are trying to push players out of the club perhaps shows how shaky their financial situation is. Owned by Peter Lim, the club shouldn’t really have any capital problems, but they still have to comply with Financial Fair Play.
When Lim bought the Spanish club, he started on a recruitment drive that hasn’t worked, so the club need to shed some wages and hopefully bring in some fees.
This all led to ‘Operación Salida’ being born, report local newspaper Super Deporte, but in true Valencia style that’s also failed to live up to expectations and with pre-season training already started, the club haven’t shipped out any of the pinpointed players.
Things could change very quickly. Super Deporte say talks are in the decisive stage for fullback Antonio Barragan and striker Alvaro Negredo to move to Middlesbrough. They believe deals could even be done in the next few hours.
There’s still plenty of time for this to all go wrong and Valencia to find their Operación Salida back at stage one.
