Guido Rodriguez joined West Ham after his exit from Real Betis in the summer, with the Spanish club having fought to try and get a renewal.
He’s been a regular for Julen Lopetegui’s side this season, playing every Premier League game for West Ham in what has been a disappointing start to the campaign for the club.
Estadio Deportivo though, have found a reason to send a dig to the ex-Betis man. They look at how the midfielder hasn’t been called up for the Argentina squad for the international break, and very much believe it’s because of his transfer decision.
Estadio describe the national snub as ‘one of worst pieces of news’ for Rodriguez, noting that he isn’t quite playing at the same level at West Ham as he was at Betis and that is why he hasn’t been called up by Argentina.
The outlet believe that this is a ‘moral blow’ for the midfielder, who was playing often for the Selecao during his time in Spain. They go as far as to say that Rodriguez was one of the best defensive midfielders in the world at Betis and he was being called up to the Argentina side until his transfer went through.
The report goes on to mention that Giovani Lo Celso has been called up to the Argentina squad due to his form at Betis, essentially suggesting that Rodriguez perhaps made a mistake in leaving and refusing to sign a new deal at the club.
