In recent days there have been reports Leeds United will be investigated by FIFA over the signing of Pontus Jansson from Torino last summer. These allegations centre around Leeds United’s agreement with the Serie A side and when the transfer fee had to be paid.
Torino fans have had their say on the matter.
On Friday reports broke over that FIFA would be investigating Jansson’s transfer to Leeds United after claims the money should have been paid in February to Torino, when the Swede played his 22nd game for the Championship, rather than in the summer.
It’s been claimed in the British media Torino have complained they should have received the transfer fee when Jansson committed himself to Leeds United on a permanent basis, following his initial loan deal with the club.
It’s taken a couple of days for reports to filter into the Italian media over the Jansson saga, and as usual in Italy the finger has been pointed at Leeds United co-owner Massimo Cellino. The Italian is something of a controversial figure after his long reign with Cagliari, and the Torino fans are not surprised such a deal was done with Cellino involved.
Supporters of the Turin club have voiced their opinion on Toronews, saying Leeds United could be in the right over the agreement, but they still believe it’s typical of the way Cellino does things. The Torino faithful don’t expect the defender to return to Italy, like some reports have suggested, but they are still wary over receiving the transfer money on time.
“Oh but Cellino is like that,” said one disgruntled Torino fan.
Jansson has been one of Leeds United’s standout players this season, which has led to speculation he could head to the Premier League this summer. Southampton have been linked with the Sweden international, and with the player hoping for top flight football Leeds United have may have a struggle keeping hold of him.
