Ian Cathro had gained experience at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur before taking the job at Estoril Praia. He was the assistant to current Nottingham Forest manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, at both Wolves and Spurs.

The 50-year-old Portuguese spent three years at Wolves between 2018 and 2021 and then moved to Tottenham. He had a short spell at the north London club before being replaced by Antonio Conte in November 2021.

Nuno Espirito Santo returned to the Premier League when Nottingham Forest appointed him as their manager last December. He helped the Reds avoid getting relegated last season.

Cathro didn’t reunite with the Portuguese at Nottingham Forest. The former Wolves and Tottenham assistant manager joined Estoril Praia, after a spell at Al-Ittihad. According to O Jogo, the 38-year-old looks on the verge of getting sacked by the Primeira Liga side.

Estoril Praia have six points from eight games and are one point above the done zone. They could drop to the relegation zone if CD Nacional, who have five points, win their game in hand.

O Jogo say Estoril Praia, led by president Ignacio Beristain Borra and main investor MSP Sports Capital, are considering sacking Cathro. He could soon be available on the market.

After a time at Wolves and Tottenham, Cathro may have the opportunity to reunite with Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest.
