The Colombian media have been full of excitement in recent days over James Rodriguez potentially moving to Everton. They’ve presented the transfer as all agreed, and are looking forward to seeing the player trying his luck in the Premier League.
There’s also been some optimism in Spain, but now there’s an insistence the move isn’t yet agreed, even if getting rid of James is part of Real Madrid’s plans for this window.
Mundo Deportivo say ‘for now, nothing is closed’, suggesting that the clubs are yet to reach an agreement.
Personal terms may well be agreed, which isn’t mentioned by Mundo, yet what happens between the clubs still needs to be defined. There’s been talk of a €25m transfer fee, which is relatively high for a 29 year old whose contract ends next summer.
Everton may well be trying to get that figure down, and if James is keen to reunite with Carlo Ancelotti then they have a lot of leverage in negotiations. Real Madrid want the player’s wages off their accounts, and this is the last window they can expect a reasonable transfer fee.
Several other Real Madrid players, including Mariano, are also available, so perhaps Everton can have a look at those too.
