Islam Slimani’s return to Sporting didn’t go as expected, because since rejoining the Lions in January, his four goals weren’t enough to convince manager Ruben Amorim, and after being left out of several matches, he’s not expected to stay for the next season.
The Portuguese media has been pointing out a few potential destinations for the striker, and according to newspaper Record, he could once again move to the Premier League.
The outlet claims Nottingham Forest, who have just been promoted to the top flight, are interested in signing Slimani this summer.
It’s said Forest have not started talks with the player’s agent yet, but are looking to land a centre-forward and have him ‘on their list’.
Record writes that Slimani is currently focused on the time with Algeria’s national team and only then will decide his future.
Once again, they claim he’s not staying at Sporting, while he’s already been linked to the likes of Fenerbahce, Al Hilal and now Nottingham Forest.
The striker, who belonged to Leicester City until 2020, and even had a loan spell at Newcastle United, moved on a free transfer to Lyon in January 2021 and once again with no costs to the Lions in January 2022.
So it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him being released, or sold for very little, this time, meaning Nottingham Forest may not have to spend much to give him a new chance in England.
