Nottingham Forest are set to miss out on Almería centre-back Mathieu Peybernes, who is focused on a move to Real Zaragoza.
That’s according to El Periodico de Aragon, who say the Spanish side have met with the footballer’s agents and the ‘harmony is absolute’.
They explain that the centre back wants to remain with Zaragoza next season, having been a regular with them while on loan this year.
The club are set to start negotiations with Almería about a permanent transfer next season, but negotiations are likely to be fierce.
Almería are unlikely to let Peybernes go on a free despite him having just a year left on his current deal and will demand a ‘transfer agreement’, especially if they miss out on promotion.
Getting a deal done would have been easier for Zaragoza if Almería had gotten promoted, but that will not be the case if they remain in the second flight.
Zaragoza and Peybernes are in ‘full tune’ about making his move permanent, though, and they will do everything possible to keep him at the club.
Peybernes wants stability and so would prefer to stay in Spain rather than move to England, where he has interest from Swansea, who made a bid for him last year, and Nottingham Forest.
His ‘priority’ is to continue with Zaragoza, which will come as a blow to Nottingham Forest, who look set to miss out on yet another player.
Earlier today, we covered reports that Filip Krovinovic will not be making a permanent switch to the City Ground this summer, and it seems Peybernes can be added to that list of players who won’t be making the move.
