Over the past couple of days, we’ve seen reports from the English media claiming West Ham United were interested in making Alphonse Aréola’s loan from Paris Saint-Germain permanent.
The France international arrived from the Ligue 1 side for the season to act as backup and worthy competition for veteran goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, with the deal including an option to buy at €12m.
When called upon, the West Ham loanee has performed, and was key to the Hammers reaching the Europa League semi-finals, playing 17 cup games throughout the course of the campaign.
There will also come a point when his Polish counterpart will hang up his gloves, at which point Aréola could take over full-time.
That’s why West Ham signing him permanently makes some sense, but RMC Sport in France are trying to slow things down a bit.
The French outlet took to their website on Thursday to say that ‘nothing has been finalised’ just yet, despite the optimism shown by the English media.
