RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer has suggested he would be open to a move to Liverpool, should it be put on the table.
The midfielder is out of contract with Leipzig next summer and yet to sign an extension, meaning that from January 1st he is free to negotiate a free transfer for next summer with clubs around Europe.
Liverpool are known to be among his admirers, having explored the possibility of a deal in the summer before electing not to sign a midfielder.
That’s a decision they’ve regretted since, with it now believed a central midfielder is at the top of their list of priorities for next summer.
They were linked with Laimer again today, with a report from SportBILD insisting that they are ‘still dabbling’ in the negotiations for the player.
That same report insisted he had a verbal agreement with Bayern for a move there, but it seems that may have been wide of the mark.
Sky Sports Austria cover quotes from the midfielder today, with him quoted as saying that “nothing has been decided and nothing is excluded” when asked about his future.
That’s good news for Liverpool in two parts. First it seems Bayern don’t have an advantage in the race for Laimer’s signature, and secondly the Reds very much have a chance of convincing the midfielder to move to Anfield.
Whether they decide to do so remains to be seen, but they’re certainly not behind Bayern at this point in time, which means their chances of pulling off what could be a bargain deal remain alive and well.
