With AC Milan playing Manchester United in the Europa League quarterfinals, that was certainly a special tie for Diogo Dalot.
The fullback is loaned by the Red Devils to the Rossoneri until the end of the season, and had the chance to prove himself to the club who still own him.
Things didn’t go great for the Italian side, who were eliminated at the San Siro, but that apparently didn’t change Dalot’s impression of the good season he’s been having.
The fullback was interviewed by Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, and among many topics, he talked about the relationship he has with Manchester United during his loan spell at Milan.
“The only feedback I have, and continue to have, is the connection I have with people connected to the club and former teammates,” Dalot told O Jogo.
“It was fantastic to see them on the pitch, to talk to them, to be with them, I have a connection with many. Feedback from the outside is something that doesn’t tell me much, I’m not very attentive, because I think this is not the time, nor is that what I should focus on. I must focus, yes, on what I have done so far, on my work. I know that they are following, because in the end the connection still remains.”
Dalot was also quizzed about his future, since it’s still unclear whether he’s returning to Manchester United or staying at Milan. The 25-year-old claims not to be worried about it.
“That is exactly it, this is not the time to decide, because it won’t be decided for now, so it’s not even worth thinking about how things will end. I want to maintain the same line of thought that I have had so far, which is to focus on Milan, to be able to play and to be able to help the team until the end of the season.
“Then, we will see soon, depending on what is best for all parties. Now, quite frankly, I’m not focused on that, because it could attract extra pressure that’s not needed. I have to be calm, do what I have done so far and try every day to help this great club that has given me what I was looking for this season: to have enough minutes. For me, the most important thing at the moment is to look at the stats and see that I’m back to having a great series of games in a few months. That’s what I value most so far, that’s what made me come here.”
In the same interview, Dalot also had a lot to say on his friendship with Bruno Fernandes, the adaptation of Alex Telles and his time with José Mourinho. Those quotes can be found here.
