Carlos Corberán arrived at West Bromwich Albion towards the end of October last year, and took over a club in the relegation zone.
Now instead of dreading the drop from the Championship, the Baggies are able to look the other way, and towards promotion to the Premier League.
The Spanish manager has taken West Brom to ninth in the table and they have a serious shot of making the play-offs.
Corberán, of course, has experience of the play-offs, with his Huddersfield Town side losing to Nottingham Forest in last year’s final.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo for their Sunday edition, the manager has said that’s the only match he hasn’t watched back from his time with Huddersfield, partly because he knew his time at the club was over and partly because of the obvious pain associated with it.
Mundo Deportivo wanted to know about a possible move to a Spanish club, so they asked the manager when he’ll be working in the country.
The West Brom boss replied: “That is not solely up to me. I feel happy to be able to dedicate myself to this work and what I long for is to continue doing this.”
That wasn’t enough for Mundo Deportivo, who then asked about offers from Spain, to which Corberán responded: “I’ve already had the opportunity to train a second division team (in Spain) and it is always appreciated that there is interest. It is reason to be satisfied.”
On his quick success with West Brom and what he found when he arrived at the club, the Spaniard said: “In football, the results greatly mark the mentality of the player on an emotional level and we knew that the sooner we achieved good results, the sooner they would feel capable of reversing the situation.
“First and foremost, I found footballers with a very high level of commitment, a balanced squad and a group predisposed to give their best.”
