With Matheus Nunes making 50 appearances for Sporting this season, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today features a piece on his regularity, pointing out he’s among the ten midfielders with most games played in Europe’s top leagues.
The outlet would obviously not forget to mention the possibility of the 23-year-old’s move to the Premier League, and Manchester City are once again named as a potential destination for him.
O Jogo writes that Pep Guardiola’s side are one of those who are ‘attentive’ to Nunes. It’s pointed out that he’s protected by a €60m release clause and Sporting won’t accept much less than that.
To speak about the player, the newspaper invited Leonel Pontes, who was a coach of him at the U-23 squad. There he talked about Nunes’ chances of succeeding in England if he were to move to Manchester City or anywhere else.
“He’s not ready for Premier League level, but the sooner he goes, the better. He’ll adapt quickly, taking into account the technical and tactical quality he has,” Pontes told O Jogo.
On Tuesday morning, newspaper A Bola also wrote about the local derby going on for Nunes, as the English media has been reporting the interest from both Manchester City and United in the player.
The outlet wrote that Sporting are still to receive any concrete bids for the midfielder.
It was claimed they already set a ‘basis’ for the negotiations, and will only accept to talk for at least €40 or €45m.
