For a while it’s been reported in Germany that Borussia Dortmund would like to keep hold of Michy Batshuayi beyond the end of this season, but it’s always been tainted with pessimism.
Batshuayi won many friends at Dortmund for the way he’s behaved both on and off the pitch and the player’s recent ankle injury has been taken as a big blow.
Going to the Bundesliga to get games and make sure he was right for the World Cup, the Chelsea owned player has been dealt some bad luck.
After claims in England that Chelsea will consider a sale for around €57m, Germany’s SportBild have given the BVB side on what they say will be transfer ‘poker’.
It’s reiterated they want to keep the Belgian, but ‘not at any price’. Dortmund always preferred to look more long term, and tried to agree a permanent option in the loan, but Chelsea weren’t up for it.
The World Cup is also a factor, with SportBild believing if Batshuayi makes it and impresses, his price could shoot up further. But given the options Belgium have, it may not be likely the striker gets starts if he’s short of match practice.
