Aston Villa allowed both Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia to travel to South America for the current international break, despite the requirement for them to quarantine before being able to train with the club again.

Initially it was thought the agreement was that both players would be available to Argentina for the first two of the country’s three matches during the current international break.

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni then insisted he’d be keeping the players for all three matches, and the second of which was set to be Brazil on Sunday evening.

That match was called off after Brazilian authorities claimed the Premier League players involved needed to quarantine. In dramatic developments, shortly before the match kicked off, officials stated the England based players, including the Aston Villa pair, were subject to deportation orders.

Monday’s edition of Ole, Argentina’s premier sport newspaper, reports that Buendia and Martinez will today travel to Croatia and won’t be available for the third match, despite what Scaloni had earlier said.

The plan is to train in Croatia for the isolation period and then return to Aston Villa. According to Ole, Argentina had tried until the last moment to keep the pair, however, ‘it was not possible’ and they’re now expected back in Europe.
