If you’ve been paying any attention to how the Tottenham players on loan have been doing so far this season, you’ll know that Joe Rodon isn’t exactly shining over at Rennes.
He has scored one goal in a 3-1 win over Stade de Brest, but every other game the Spurs loanee has played in has either been a loss or a draw, with the Ligue 1 side conceding each time.
The only other win Rennes have picked up is when the Tottenham man was benched in the 2-1 victory over AC Ajaccio, and it’s fair to say his performances haven’t been up to scratch so far.
He has remained in Bruno Génésio’s starting line up for the time being, but it will be interesting to see if the Wales international features on Thursday against AEK Larnaca in the Europa League.
Because of his current form and the fact Rennes bought 20-year-old Christopher Wooh from RC Lens on transfer deadline day to make up for the exit of Loïc Badé, Ouest-France believe that ‘given the performances’ of the Tottenham defender, the idea of the youngster replacing him in the starting line-up is ‘not impossible’.
The young centre-back made it clear he was gunning for a first-team role, stating that ‘competition makes you progress’, and that’s exactly what he plans on giving Rodon.
As for Tottenham in all this, the last thing they will want is for their player to lose his spot to a 20-year-old with just 15 Ligue 1 games under his belt, when the idea was for him to progress and get minutes away from Antonio Conte’s squad.
