European football is a great place for many scouts to go, and there is generally a long list of clubs present at each Champions League/Europa League tie, and Besiktas vs Olympiakos was no different.
In fact, even Norwich, currently in the Championship, travelled to watch the Turkish side beat their Greek counterparts 4-1, and it appears they had a couple of strikers in mind.
Towards the end of last month, Turkish-Football.com revealed the Canaries were interested in Besiktas’s Cenk Tosun, scouting him against Galatasaray, while Fotospor in Turkey believed Norwich were ready to spend £10m on Vincent Aboubakar, and it appears they returned for more on Thursday evening.
According to Gazzetta in Greece, it appears Alan Irvine continued what Alex Neil started by sending a scout to the Europa League tie, where they watched the duo alongside representatives from other clubs, such as Arsenal, West Ham, Napoli and Lazio.
While Vincent Aboubakar scored one before being sent off after 37 minutes, Tosun came on in the 82nd minute for Ricardo Quaresma and managed to get himself a goal during his eight minute cameo, which would have pleased the Norwich staff member present on the day.
The 25-year-old Turkish forward has scored 20 goals in 36 appearances for Besiktas so far this season, picking up three assists along the way, explaining the Canaries’ interest in bringing him to Carrow Road for their next campaign.
Aboubakar, on the other hand, has been a bit less prolific, scoring just 13 goals in 29 appearances.
