On January 3rd we covered claims from Germany that Philip Heise was on the verge of a return to the country.
Norwich City signed Heise from Dynamo Dresden in the January 2019 transfer window, but the move didn’t work out as the player will have hoped.
The defender wasn’t required by the club as they made their way from the Championship to the Premier League, and he hadn’t been featuring since promotion either.
With no minutes in the league so far this season, and only two bench appearances, the 28 year old was restricted to outings in the EFL Cup, EFL Trophy and PL 2.
On January 4th, a loan move to FC Nürnberg was completed, and it was thought there was no buying option for the Bundesliga 2 club, who have been fighting relegation.
It’s a much brighter time for the 28 year old, and he’s since explained to Bild just how happy he is: “It was an indescribable feeling. I was nervous, felt like I was ten years old and allowed to kick with my friends again.”
The player’s family and children have remained in England, and he’s currently living in a flat-share with reserve goalkeeper Felix Dornbusch.
Given how well he’s settled in, the prospect of staying beyond the loan from Norwich was brought up: “The club is a club where I could imagine staying. But that is not just my decision, but also that of Nürnberg.”
Felix may have to find a new flatmate come the summer.
