Former Norwich City forward Ricky van Wolfswinkel believes Sporting Lisbon star Bas Dost should play instead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Vincent Janssen in the Netherlands’ upcoming games. Janssen has struggled to get games for Tottenham, which has led the Dutch media to questioning if he should be a starter in Danny Blind’s team.
Speaking to Voetbal International, Van Wolfswinkel was asked who he’d prefer to lead the line for the Netherlands in the next two internationals. The Vitesse forward believes Sporting Lisbon are getting the best out of Dost this season, which is reflected in his goalscoring record.
Van Wolfswinkel, when asked whether Jansson or Dost should get the nod, said that judging on current form he would pick Sporting’s star over the Tottenham striker: “He is being well used and this is reflected in the number of goals. At this moment in time I would definitely play Dost. He’s in great shape,” said the former Norwich City player.
With the form of Dost this season Janssen’s place in Blind’s team looks under threat given the Dutch coach’s policy of only selecting players who play regularly for their clubs.
The Tottenham star has had to watch from the sidelines in recent weeks but could now get more chances due to Harry Kane’s injury. Janssen scored for Spurs at the weekend, which will give him a boost in confidence.
