Everton have taken the lead for the signing of Bournemouth striker Joshua King, according to the latest news from Norway.

Following all the news today claiming that Fulham and Southampton were also in for the 29-year-old, it seems the Toffees are now closer to making the signing.

TV2 is the one reporting that the Goodison Park side have been clearing up space in their salary budget so they can fit King into the squad. They state, making it clear it’s from their own information that Everton ‘had to clear salary space’ to sign King.

The Toffees have already loaned out Cenk Tosun to Besiktas, sent Jonjoe Kenny to Celtic, and are still looking to sell Bernard to Al Nasr. That makes King’s arrival a lot easier.

TV2 recalls that Everton have been trying to get King since the summer. They couldn’t convince Bournemouth at the time, but now the Championship side are willing to let him go for a lot less.

The negotiations between the clubs are said to be ongoing, with no further details on how much the Toffees would spend on the signing.
