Manchester City put in a great performance this week to beat Real Madrid 2-1 and give themselves a good chance of qualifying for the next round of the Champions League.
The match included a penalty awarded to City and a red card shown to Sergio Ramos. There were also claims Gabriel Jesus had pushed Ramos in the back whilst scoring his goal.
None of the decisions seemed obviously wrong, although it’s fair to say there could be debate around them. A column in Spanish newspaper AS attacked the referee, but Marca weren’t concentrating on that, instead explaining how Pep Guardiola has such a good record at the Bernabeu.
After the match, Vinicius made some comments in the heat of the moment. The Brazilian said ‘referees always come here and whistle against us’, going on to suggest Real Madrid’s success makes them targets.
There had been suggestions he could face punishment, but Marca report today that UEFA will ‘ignore’ the comments, not deeming them serious enough to take action.
Whilst UEFA are never happy with such comments, it’s not thought there’s enough in the 19 year old’s words to warrant punishment.
