Earlier this week, spurred on by claims in the English media, Marca half heartedly pushed forward the option of Antonio Conte for Real Madrid.
The Champions League winners are at a bit of a loss over who will be their next manager and the major candidates just don’t look likely right now.
Mauricio Pochettino will be almost impossible to get from Tottenham and similar can be said about Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, whilst Germany manager Joachim Low has already ruled himself out of the running for the job.
That’s all led to other candidates being looked at and Marca now make an attempt to talk Conte up. There would be ‘no problem contractually’ getting the Chelsea manager, believe the Spanish newspaper, because of his difficult situation at Stamford Bridge.
It’s even stated ‘right now it can be said that he is first on the list’. Conte’s ‘volcanic’ character gets a mention and it’s clear the Chelsea boss isn’t the ideal candidate but is ‘one of the few live options among top coaches in European football’.
Whilst there’s somewhat of a downer surrounding Conte and Chelsea right now, the Premier League title and an FA Cup isn’t a bad return over two years and the last season seemed doomed from the offset with the Italian not feeling backed in the market.
The Marca claims are confident in parts and not so much in others, and it seems Real Madrid are at a junction and not entirely sure which way to turn.
